Columbus Dance Theatre Announces Fourth Annual Columbus Dances Fellowship in Partnership with the Greater Columbus Arts Council

Columbus Dance Theatre, in partnership with the Greater Columbus Arts Council, announces the Fourth Annual Columbus Dances Fellowship.  The fellowship awards are designed to support local choreographers in their efforts to create new dance in the Columbus community.  Fellowships will be awarded to five (5) choreographers whose work will be presented as an extension of Columbus Dance Theatre’s annual community dance concert, Columbus Dances.  Monetary and space grants will be awarded as part of the fellowships.

“We are so pleased to be able to continue to support the dance community in this manner,” said CDT Artistic Director Tim Veach.  “CDT is grateful to GCAC for their continued support in this effort to ensure a vital and vibrant landscape for new dance in Columbus.”

The fellowships are supported with funds from the Greater Columbus Arts Council and administrative and artistic resources from Columbus Dance Theatre.

Applicants must have an interest in developing new work and will create works using dancers from the greater Columbus community for fellowship consideration.  Successful applicants will have their works produced by CDT in its home performance space, The Fisher Theatre during a weekend of performances free to the public.

Choreographers will submit new, original dances of 7-15 minutes in length in any style.  An open adjudication will be held on January 12, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Columbus Dance Theatre’s Fisher Theatre.  The deadline to make an appointment for adjudication is December 31, 2013. The adjudication panel will be comprised of local and regional dance artists.  Five choreographers will be chosen by the panel to participate in a weekend of concerts at Columbus Dance Theatre.  Choreographers must reside in Franklin County and be at least 18 years of age to submit work for adjudication.  The previous year’s recipients are not eligible.  As part of the adjudication process:

  • Choreographers should show at least three (3) minutes or more of their proposed dance.
  • Dances must be duets or group work – no solo works.
  • Dances must be shown by the performers who will appear in the final presentation.
